Blackwater : Hello to any Draver fans out there, and anyone who just happened to stumble across this page. While I am still working on editing the second part of Robin's talk about Dravers I figured I would ask Robin here to provide a little information about Draver names and provide a few more examples. But firstly I should add something about the name of the species, Dravers, and how it is pronounced. The name comes from the Dutch word for "trotter" and is pronounced like "driver" with more of an "ah" sound instead of the "i", so "drah-ver" but the Terranglo pronunciation of "dray-ver" is also acceptable as it is the more common pronunciation outside New Benelux.
So with that said, I will hand things over to Robin now.
R : Hi, It's Robin here. I was asked to provide some information about Draver names and some of the general "rules" to keep in mind when naming a Draver. When it comes to first names it is pretty simple, the majority of first names for Dravers are common human names in Dutch, but also in French, German and English. Since we were created by humans many of us choose a human name to bring us closer to our creators. A few examples are Liesbet, Lies, Anouk, Pieter, Eveline, Joris, and some more unisex names such as Robin or Pascal, It should be easy enough to find more such names on the net for the different languages.
Some Dravers may choose a name which could be given to a non morph horse to reflect a closer tie to nature, such as Apollo, Luna, Blaze, Autumn. Also shouldn't be too difficult to find inspiration for on the net.
There are also some more descriptive names, similar to Chakats, which are given to foals after they are born before they are given their more permanent name. Since the family/herd name tends to be of a descriptive nature in many cases such first names are often changed and rarely stick aside from becoming a nickname or being shortened. One example I can give would be an aunt of mine, who was originally named Summer's Rain but now goes by the name Rain.
Family/herd names tend to be horse puns (our ancestors definitely had a sense of humor about it.) or referencing or describing part of, or sounds, of horses. In my case our family chose DeDraver, named after our creator Leopold DeDraver. There are some variations of it such as Dravers or Draver, some similar names are based more on trotting such as Langdraver (Longtrotter) as a more descriptive name not directly related to our species or creator. A few other examples are langemaan (Longmane) and Vierhoeven (fourhooves), and some more pun based ones such as Hohenross or Hoogpaard (High horse) and Driespan (Three span). There are also some more obscure Dutch slang names for horses used in herd names such as Luifer, pijfer and Klophengst all names referring to stallions in old dialects with some changes in the phonetic spelling here and there. Such slang names can be more difficult to find, particularly in Dutch but they aren't all that common anyway so they are the more unique names. Do keep in mind that these names can also be in French, German and English to make things more easy.
And that would cover pretty much the basics I believe, so untill next time.
